DAY TO DAY ITINERARY

Map route of tour

Map route of tour.

1st day: Palermo - Scopello +

Arrival and transfer to the ancient village of Scopello – a very small village that sprang up around an ancient “baglio” and dates back to the seventeenth century. If you have time, you can walk through the Zingaro Nature Reserve where an amazing coastal path will lead you to beautiful coves

Accommodation and overnight stay.

2nd day:. Scopello– Segesta – Buseto Palizzolo (47KM) ARANCINA AND CASSATELLA TASTING +

Today is your first day of cycling! Travelling from Scopello, you will reach the archaeological site of Segesta, one of the most important archaeological sites due to its impressive temple and breathtaking sea views. In the past, Segesta was a powerful town of the Elimians from Turkey, and the Greeks and Romans during the Punic War.

Along the way, you will taste famous Sicilian “Arancina” (a Sicilian dish consisting of small balls of rice stuffed with a savoury filling, coated in breadcrumbs, and fried), and “Cassatella” (a little pocket dessert filled with ricotta cheese, typical of that area).

Accommodation in a BB.

3rd day: Buseto Palizzolo – Trapani (34km) CANNOLO TASTING and COUS COUS +

Today you will pedal along a panoramic coastal road on which you can admire the sea and the sight of the flow mills on the Salinas. Along the way to Trapani, stop and enjoy a cannoli tasting! A tasting of this Sicilian deep-fried tube pastry filled with sweetened and flavoured ricotta cheese is a must.

Enjoy a typical dinner with cous cous. This is a dish that comes from North Africa, close to Sicily, where the steamed and coarse-grained couscous is served with an intensely flavoured fish broth (you actually discard the fish) or vegetables. This comes from the days when the Arabs ruled Sicily and from the island’s more recent commuters – fisherman from nearby Tunisia.

4th day: Trapani – Mozia – Marsala (50km) WINE TASTING +

Cycle from Trapani to Mozia, and finally to Marsala, where you will visit one of the cellars where the special Marsala wine is produced. The town is famous for Marsala, a fortified dessert wine, which was introduced to a wider range of consumers thanks to the English trader, John Woodhouse.

In 1773, Woodhouse landed at the port of Marsala and discovered local wine that was being aged in wooden casks. It tasted similar to Spanish and Portuguese fortified wines, which were popular in England at the time. Woodhouse recognized that the in perpetuum process raised the alcohol level and alcoholic taste of this wine, while also preserving these characteristics during long distance sea travel. Woodhouse further predicted that fortified Marsala would be popular in England and began exporting it.

This visit and tasting will give you even more amazing insight into this popular wine.

5th day: Marsala – Mazara del Vallo (29KM) +

Today you will have a chance to visit the town, do some wine tasting in one of the many local wineries, or just relax. Otherwise, you can cross the sea and visit one of the beautiful Egadi Islands, enjoy the seaside, or walk.

Then, you will make your way to the town of Mazara del Vallo – a very nice town with a “Kasbah” and the famous bronze “Dancing Satyr” statue.

6th day: Mazara – Selinunte (50KM) OLIVE OIL TASTING +

The area is well known for the olive farms and olive plants and you will have the chance to taste Sicily’s extra-virgin first cold-pressed olive oil which is a staple in the healthy Mediterranean diet and is used daily in Italian cooking. To end with the visit of the archaeological site of Selinunte with its temple and ruins. The widest open air archaeological site in Europe. Accommodation in Selinunte area.

This hilly stage of the journey will lead you to Selinunte (the ancient Selinus) and will give you the chance to enter the interior of the island. Leaving the flat vineyards around Marsala, you will begin curving inland towards a softly undulating series of hills, and then down to the sea once again.

The Selinunte area is well known for its olive farms and olive plants, and you will have a chance to taste the olive oil with some famous “Castelvetrano Bread”. Sicily’s extra-virgin cold-pressed olive oil is a staple in the healthy Mediterranean diet and is used daily in Italian cooking.

You will end the day with a visit to the archaeological site of Selinunte to see its temple and ruins. This is the widest open-air archaeological site in Europe.

Accommodation in the Selinunte area.

7th day: Selinunte: Relax on the beach +

Today, you can relax and enjoy the beach, and have a bath in the crystalline sea.

8th day: Selinunte: Relax on the beach +

Another day to relax, enjoy the beach and the crystalline sea.

9th day: Selinunte – Sciacca (45KM) +
