Day One – From Rome to Maremma +

Arrive at Rome’s Fiumicino Airport and meet up with the group in Terminal 3 (Arrivals). We’ll then head north to Maremma – a coastal area of central Italy that borders the Tyrrhenian Sea. It’s a large part of southwestern Tuscany and part of Northern Lazio with beautiful hills, towns, and coastal stretches.

We’ll arrive in Borgheri for a visit and wine tasting, check in for a 2-night stay in an ancient castle, and enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

Day Two – Wine & Etruscans +

After breakfast, we’ll visit the Baratti e Populonia archaeological park, followed by a journey along “La Strada del Vino e dell’Ollio”. This road, also known as the “Etruscan Coast Wine and Olive Oil Road,” leads you through plush coastal areas and past ancient villages nestled in the rolling hills. This area was once home to the thriving Etruscan civilization, is the birthplace of the prestigious Sassicaia wine, and is well-known for its production of extra-virgin olive oil, honey, wood-fired bread, cheeses, cured meats, and preserves.

We’ll enjoy lunch in a local restaurant to get a true taste of the Etruscan Coast!

After lunch, we’ll walk through the vineyards of a local winery, tour the grounds, and learn about their fascinating production philosophy. This will be followed by a tasting of five wines and one extra virgin olive oil. You’ll have the evening to spend at your leisure in Bolghheri.

Day Three – Nectar of Gods +

Today, we’ll check out and spend some time relaxing after breakfast.

Our day will start after lunch with a visit and wine tasting at Ornellaia, an acclaimed producer of Super Tuscan wine. This will be followed by a light dinner with wine at a charming wine bar in Tuscany’s Chianti region.

We’ll then board the ferry for an overnight crossing to the beautiful island of Sardinia.

Day Four – Olbia +

Our ferry will arrive in Olbia where we’ll disembark and enjoy breakfast.

Today, we’ll also visit La Prisgiona archaeological site for a guided tour that includes the Nuraghe complex, and the village of huts that extend around it. This will offer fascinating insight into the Nuragic civilization, which was present on the island of Sardinia from the Bronze Age to when the Romans colonized the island in 238 BCE.

We’ll follow this visit with a wine tasting and lunch, and check in to our hotel in Castelsardo, which is a beautiful medieval town that sits overlooking the sea. You’ll have a free evening to enjoy dinner on your own.

Day Five – Departure to Alghero +

After breakfast, we’ll depart for the medieval city of Alghero, which is located on Sardinia’s northwest coast and encircled by sea walls. The city is known for its Gothic architecture, cobblestone Old Town centre, Le Bombarde beach, and wonderful restaurants serving traditional Sardinian cuisine. We’ll tour the city with an expert local guide.

Lunch will be at your leisure, followed by a visit and wine tasting at a nearby winery.

We’ll then head back to the hotel and you can spend the rest of the day at your leisure.

Day Six – Castelsardo +

After breakfast, we’ll visit a farm in the heart of Anglona, Sardinia specializing in viticulture, beekeeping, and olive growing. We’ll enjoy lunch at the winery, followed by a visit to the Museo Archeologico Paleobotanico.

This museum is located in Perfugas - an area rich in archaeological sites - and is divided into five sections: Paleobotany, Paleolithic, Neolithic & Eneolithic, Nuragic, and Classical & Medieval.

The evening will be spent at your leisure back in Castelsardo.

Day Seven – Departure to Oristano +

After check-out and breakfast, we’ll depart for a 3-hour journey to Gavoi to taste the famous Fiore Sardo DOP cheese. Afterwards, we’ll continue onto Oristano, which is a city situated on the Campidano Plain in the central-western part of Sardinia.

Oristano features elegant piazzas and churches, and a number of wonderful shops, cafes, and restaurants to explore.

We’ll check into our hotel in the heart of the city and dinner will be enjoyed at your leisure.

Day Eight – Oristano +

After breakfast, we’ll participate in a 3-hour hands-on cooking class, followed by lunch. You’ll have a chance to enjoy and cook with fresh local ingredients while learning about typical Sardinian cuisine.

Afterwards, you’ll have a free day to relax or spend time at the beach.

Day Nine - Oristano +

After breakfast, we’ll visit the Tharros archaeological site and Museo Civico Marongiu.

The Tharros archaeological site is an open-air museum featuring impressive structures from the ancient city of Tharros, active excavation sites, and the Museo Civico Marongiu, which is home to many artifacts from the area.

Tharros is believed to have been first inhabited by Phoenicians in the 8th century, followed by Punics and then Romans, until it was abandoned in the 10th century.

After our visit, we’ll have lunch in a typical Sardinian place on the beach (weather permitting).

You’ll have a free evening to enjoy at your leisure.

Day Ten – Departure Day +

We’ll check out, and after breakfast depart for the Cagliari airport.
